Be Silent or Be Stilled
“Labeling Jewish critics of Israel as traitors or anti-Semites isn't standing up for the Jewish people. Such steps are instead a brand of hatred that represents a direct assault on Jewish values of tradition and justice and conscience.”.

Thank you Charles..as a Jewish man with Jewish relatives in South Africa I can attest for this rhetoric...the defense of Israel sometimes blinds many from reality...what a shame Justice Goldstone had to miss one of the most important events for a Jewish family....

I agree 100%. I have been accused of being a "self-loathing Jew" many times simply for suggesting the need for a Palestinian state. Now, "self-loathing," OK but the "Jew" part is unnecessary!
LIberal Jews in this country are accused of being traitors and anti-semites just for having voted for Obama. When you point out how many Jews are on Obama's team and that he's the first president to hold seders in the White House, these nut cases say "oh, they're the worst kind!" and "Obama is just covering for his Reverend Wright based anti-semitism." The treatment Goldstone is receiving is disgusting.
Back in the '70s when I was living in Boston I travelled down to NYC to meet up with some old college friends who grew up in Liberty NY among very religious Jews though these guys weren't orthodox.
We met in a restaurant and everybody ordered. Then the conversation turned to politics and I suggested way back then, that the only solution to the Arab-Israeli problem was a Palestinian state.
All together, they all got up and left. So there I was alone at the table....

What a shameful departure from a cultural tradition of self deprecation. The ability to recognize one's own flaws or mistakes seems to be more characteristic of another religion altogether. Not a flattering comparison.

Does anyone know what zj meant with the above comment? (I was told there'd be no math..)

Don't you just get sick of people telling other people how to practice their faiths, whether it's religious or cultural or ... anything?
