Don't Let Truth Get in the Way of Your Agenda

Every few months, I feel it is important to point out the difference between facts and fiction here on my blog. Take the hackneyed phrase that the Right have puked out so many times, that even many on the Left and in the Center now believe it:
“Al Gore claimed he invented the Internet!!”
Not true- but of course the new, media-in-the-21st-Century-rule is, “if you say something enough times, people will believe it's true”. So, let's review:
Did Al Gore claim he invented the Internet? If you don't like that source, try this one.. or this one. But don't take my word for it- do your own research and let me know how you make out.
(It's one thing to disagree with your opponent's views, but let's deal with the facts- unless, of course, the lie serves to confirm your own political viewpoints...)

never let the truth get in the way of a good story. both sides are guilty of that, lets not kid ourselves on that one.

Yeah right, memory man. You couldn't just let this one go without doing a shout-out for your side, could ya? Your fingers must ”tingle“ as you itch to step up to that jumbo plate full of Freedom Fries. haha

OK so he did not say he invented the internet. He instead said he created the internet. That is more than "a bit clumsy" in my opinion. Especially coming from someone as smart as Al Gore. I happened to watch the interview live that evening. My wife and I looked at each other in disbelief and said "What did he just say?" It was one of those real awkward moments on live TV. Judge for yourself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnFJ8cHAlco

He didn't invent the internet? There goes his ONE achievement.

"During my service in the United States Congress, I took the initiative in creating the Internet."
- Al Gore, March '99

"The Internet would not be where it is in the United States without the strong support given to it and related research areas by the Vice President in his current role and in his earlier role as Senator."
- Vincent Cerf, Sr. VP, MCI Worldcom (aka the Father of the Internet)

that fight is an old one anyway, he is going to even with the nay sayers about the internet by selling a Billion dollars worth of carbon credits. talk about a farce

He took the initiative in creating a whole range of initiatives? What is THAT? I watched it twice. Okay, great, he had vision, alot of people do. The key is what are those visions and how do you intend to make them happen? Vision without plans just become dreams.
