If he plays his cards right, he could be our next president.

That is a very scary statement. If that were to happen it would make the eight years of W a cake walk. More torture, more wars, and the extremely rich would get richer.

The reason Scott Brown is now the senator for Massachusetts is because until recently, the Governor of Mass had the responsibility of appointing a new person in what would have been a special election. But the arrogant Mass legislature decided to take that power away from the governor because John Kerry was running for president and just in case he won, they didn't want Mitt Romney choosing Kerry's replacement. I guess you could say that the democrats have reaped what they have sown. And now the Obama administration is the big loser due to the arrogance of the Massachusetts state legislature.

IMO one of the reasons he won was because he had the entire Republican machine behind him and Coakely did not get the same support (until FAR too late) from her Democratic party and voter base. Brown had support from the very top all the way to the bottom. Money was channeled in to help from all over and the right wing minions took to spamming the forums, blogs and newspaper articles with some pretty foul and dubious commentary. His ads were good and not offensive can't recall one ad that referred to him as a Republican!) but the screech monkeys did the dirty work for him via the internet and on talk radio. I did not vote for him because I do not want to return his part to power. The party who brought us to this mess. Anyway. I think the main reason he won is so many people, including myself, do not like the Health bill*S* as they are written right now. I personally do not want either passed until it is a true heath care system for the people that benefits everyone and not some at the expense of others. It'd better include Congress and all government employees too the moment it takes effects too.
I also have lost most of my faith in the Obama administration as they have not reversed much of the "bad" that the Bush admin did. I understand it takes time to fix the economy but I don't give a fail to Obama for that. However they have had the time and could have worked at repealing corporate tax incentives for off shore jobs, tax breaks for oil corporations, repealing legislation that literally permits insurance companies yank coverage at will and those reprehensible "Patriot" Acts still stand. There's not been a lot of "change" Let's see if Brown can keep the seat later this year and at the same time if things don't really change let's see what Democrats do too.

John Kerry summed it up best. Obama and the other Dems ran on the platform that they were going to fix the economy, put people back to work and end the wars. The first thing they did when they got in was try to pass the vastly unpopular health care agenda and ignore their whole campaign platform. "The People are sending a clear message to Washington, you work for us not the special interest groups!" At least one democrat actually gets it. Hopefully more will catch on or the republicans will be back in control next year. On a brighter note for those of you still crying in your beer. The system actually worked for once. The will of the majority actually won out in a one party system. Massachusetts residents didn't even think that could be possible yesterday. Democracy actually worked. I know it worked against what some of you were really passionate about, ... sorry. Let's face it is that bill what you really wanted? Really? Were you just settling for the pork laden insurance company aproved piece of crap because you thought it was the best you could get, no matter how much it cost? In a two party system them dems will have to compromise and maybe get something that a majority of the country might like instead of just Pelosi and Blue Cross Blue Sheild. Maybe not but atleast the people will be heard this time. You can't really bitch about that (Although I'm sure some of you will anyway. You didn't like it when they did it to you so suck it!).

All the above comments are the kind of debating I agree with and welcome. Wish all political issues could be handled this way! I agree we have the same problems- even though I disagree with some of the solutions, but.. Maybe at some point the yelling will stop and this latest wake-up call will validate the Right and strengthen the Left- everybody's heat will simmer down and we can move forward. We'll see what Mr. Brown does with his new-found power!

The Sky Is Crying-slow hand? Are you kidding, it's Elmore James, you better check out the real shit.
Too bad the country has decided it really doesn't want health care reform. We like having medical expenses as the cause of 50% of all bankruptcies. We like seeing our premiums increase 33% in one year. We think it makes sense that so many poor people use the ER's as their primary health care provider and now they are closing in the face of huge losses.
I guess Obama better find some jobs quick or he's toast. He's lost me because of his failure to hold the TARP recipients accountable and institute regulatory guidelines, bonus caps etc. Hard to believe that 92% of those in the financial sector who are responsible for the meltdown are still at their jobs, getting bonuses.
