Deliberately Deliberating
"I've learned it's best to opt out of ALL political discussions. You won't win converts, you just wind up alienating friends who may be of the opposite persuasion. What's that old saying....."just ain't no percentage in it."
-Kevin Malvey
I notice the political discussions getting hotter and heavier. I'm seeing many strong feelings, raw emotions and no-win discussions. I feel like I have turned into a hater, just like them. I am now as guilty as the people I oppose- of being patronizing, not listening and hurtful.
I am going apolitical for awhile and hopefully everything will stabilize. I am also going to try to quit eating meat again.

Charles:
I beg you to reconsider! Blogging without politics is like masturbating without the payoff. Just take a little more control of the posts on the blog, dont let myself and others turn the discussion into the scene from stand by me where lardass sits back and marvels at his creation, a complete and total barforama. Maybe mix it up with more Pats stuff or sports in general. You have a connection with the PATS ownership, use that to stimulate debate amongst us, Such as the benching of Adaleius last week. I apologize for in some cases hijacking the debate and purposely degrating the conversation because some of the regulars here make easy targets. Just think about it a little more, if you look back on the previous articles its easy to see which topics generate the most posts. Maybe its time to bring back the foxhole so that the main posts dont look juvenile?

How successful were you the last time on the vegan diet?

My mother used to have a saying: Principles above personalities. Our nation is becoming so immersed in this pettiness that true debate and compromise is nearly extinct. We are so concerned with whose side is "right" that we forget about what is good for all. People feel personally attacked when a differing view is presented to them and I can see why. Health care for all---Socialist! 2nd amendment supporter---gun nut! Marijuana law reform---drug addict! Increase military spending---war monger! It doesn't matter what "side" you're on, we have become dividers, not uniters. Two other things to remember, politics ruin politicians and both parties are pigs at the same trough. To sum up, my boss and my friend's young son share this facet of personality:
His idea, good idea.
Your idea, bad idea.
My idea, listen to Stephen Stills "Word Game". Don't worry, I won't call you a hippie.

I'm with you Chuck. My serenity level bit the shed. It's a no-win thing. I've been thinking about going veg again too. We must be on the same page, despite the fact that I am anti-war period!! I couldn't resist. Are you into meditation and such? It's better for me than all of that politic stuff.
I even dropped the faceless book. I hated it. But I did bookmark a ton of stuff, like Free-Form BCN, which I'm listening to right now. Good luck not being political. I hope you are getting dis-illusioned with the 'new boss' controlled by the same at the top of the pyramid. (See, it's hard to stop, isn't it?)
I Wish you peace.

it appears that your support for o'bama's policies is waning?
maybe it is the time to rather step up the discussion and urge action rather than be silent
as robbie said
"grow some stones"
apathy is governments best friend

dear bob a:
did you really interpret my message as being that my “support for President Obama or his policies is waning?” Or are you just being hopefully silly?
Read what I said again, please:
I am just sick of trying to convert the inconvertible and I am just tired of trying to talk sense into the senseless.
Most importantly, I find myself losing too many good friends whom I get upset with because of their- well? (putting it nicely)- their standards and philosophies, which I totally disagree with; and I have no desire to make them enemies because of their what I feel are their misguided beliefs.
