Behind the Scenes: August 10, 2009

This is the first segment with Hardy, Carter Alan, Cha-Chi LoPrette.
Note to all air- staff:
After I made the decision take part in the event, Lisa Traxler and I tried to compile a complete list of anyone and everyone who ever had an on-air show on WBCN. It was a frantic and stressful 24-hour period we had to work with. When I did go on air the next day, some of the names I read were drowned out by commercials; some by music, and some by people talking over each other. There was no way for Trax and I to get an accurate and complete list in that short a period of time; most importantly, we both knew there would be no way to remember or find out every name- and that a lot of people who busted their chops during those four decades would be hurt and disappointed to see their name missing or not heard; but we decided to go that route anyway. The most incredible gaffe of all was that I ended up leaving out the names of some of my best friends and co-workers: Terry (Sauce) Cray, Patrick Murray, Bob Malatesta, Vinny B, Ed Moloney, Henry Santoro, etc.- all people who were going to be on a separate Big Mattress list because we had planned to do that- but it never happened.
There were also the predictable problems with some names I actually did read, (Like Charlie Kendall- where the only part that made the air was something like, “...lots of mirrors in those days...” - and I get word back that Charlie is disappointed I didn't read his name.. So, in many cases, I may have read your name, and whether it went out or not (second segment) was the luck of the draw.) The complete (so far) list is here.
(Please feel free to add names of on-air people who were missed- and know that I forgot them and am a total shithead.)*

* (pathetic attempt at self-pity and vain outreach for forgiveness).

No good deed goes unpunished..........It's the sentiment that counted.

The really tough list to compile would be for all those that ever donated their time on the Listener Line. They deserve our thanks too.

I was on-air at BCN in the early 70's, filling in (the first time because everyone else wanted to go to the Christmas party at the Cambridge Boat House) for John Brodie and others. It ended when the FBI showed up looking for me (AWOL from the army) and Sandy the bookkeeper stalled them in the front office on Stuart Street.
Worked with Sam later at Starfleet Studios and am now painting (who knew?) on the coast of Maine.

Ah George, I remember it well. I can even visualize Sandra's upper plate slipping as often happened after a box of wine.
I know the feeling. As the guy with the least clout, I was left behind to do a 20 hour shift while the entire airstaff went to Woodstock.
