What Professor Gates Still Doesn't Get.

Being the pinko, commie liberal that I am, I normally would be on the side of Skip Gates in this case, (especially since my Messiah, Obama, called the Cambridge Police “stupid..”) but this time I'm putting my chips on the other side of the board.

Skip, you mouthed off!

The president’s characterization of the officer’s action as “stupid” misses the mark; “calculated” and maybe even “unjust,” it was, but “stupid” it wasn’t. Police officers in America overreact everyday, for the same reason dogs lick their nuts — because they can.”

Chris Rock Tip of the Day

Comments

This white boy thinks Chris Rock is spot on brilliant (albeit obvious) and Prof. Gates has always seemed easily bright and sophisticated enough to avoid this kind of unpleasantness unless, of course, he enjoys it. What troubles me is that the cop also seems bright and sophisticated. Couldn't he see what lay ahead of him if he actually arrested Gates?

This is the funniest video that can explain the troubles in Cambridge, Mass.

Charles you are the common sense of the USA and Cambridge!

Charles,

I will continue to discuss politics with you and always value your opinion (even though we both know we often disagree)...

as you prove to me once again that you are thinking about these issues and making intelligent, thoughtful and objective observations.......

At least on this one .... ;-)

sb

I think Gates was tired and frustrated after a long trip and not being able to get into his house, but, come on....
He needs some Racial Sensitivity Training, not just for White Folks, Sir.

And Obama should know to wait till all the facts are in.

Spot on Charles! Even though the charges against Gates have been droped there are still charges pending on POTUS for Gross and Negligent Stupidity, also Race Baiting.

gates will most likely prevail here because of the racism that exists in america.

crowley doesn't have a chance!

Put your money where your Wingnut mouth is, bob a.

I have $100 says you're dead wrong. Or we could bet
loser has to vote the opposing party in 2012.
lol

I guess calling me a wingnut is a compliment

I just googled news gates and this was the first article from the sf chronicle:

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/abraham/detail?blogid=95&entry_id=44203

Gates will never apologize or backdown

i'll take the $100

Thanks for this post Charles - the worst part of this mess is the POTUS chiming in his 2 cents on this or any other matter without "being there and without knowing all the facts"....kind of scary......and then of course back pedalling ...

the beat goes on:

the chris rock was great!

the last instruction was don't bring a mad woman with you

that's how george jung got busted in "blow"

officer crowley doesn't have a chance!

i am done chuck!!

do you want my address to send a check or will you vote for my candidate in 2012?

thanks for the fun!

Charles,
Don't send that check or cast any votes yet.
bob a,
How do you like your crow served with or without feathers?

“More often than not,” O’Donnell said, “as the facts come out, they are more favorable to the cop. It’s crucial in the sense that it provides independent evidence. There is no question it provides corroboration. He called the tapes potentially “crucial” to Crowley’s ability to defend himself against charges of racism"

Here's the problem Chaswick. In Massachusetts, you cannot arrest somebody for a misdemeanor in thier own home. It has to be a Felony. Every cop knows those rules. The issue here is where did the arrest take place. If Gates was disorderly in his own home, it was an illegal arrest. If he was baited by the Police Sergeant to come off the porch it was wrong. The cop helped create the disorderly situation. You can't be disorderly in your own home but you can be disorderly on the front common walkway. I think Obama should have used different words to describe his feelings about the incident. Him being a lawyer, and going to law school in Massachusetts, he knows the rules. It is a stupid situation. I would have walked away and written off the the guy as an ignorant old man who hates the police. We have lots of them here in Massachusetts.

bob a:
Please carefully read what you wrote; and what I wrote; and understand what the bet is. And then understand why you will end up paying... (unless WingNuts are also pussies who don't pay when they lose bets!)

PREVAIL means five things:
1. An out and out win for Prof Gates.
2. No doubts that Gates was wrong from his followers.
3. No apologies asked for, by the people who normally support Gates.
4. No backing down by Obama
5. 100% support from the black community

You've already lost on #'s 1,2,3, and 4 (partially- more backing down sure to come from the prez)
and #5.

Unless you have a new definition for the word “PREVAIL,” you should send me the $100 now- or STFU from now on before you post your “dittoheadspeak” comments. My readers did not just fall off a turnip truck.
(By the way, this comment sounds angry- It's not- Make believe we are sharing a beer and I am pointing a finger at you while I'm laughing and yelling at you.)
:)

Chuck

your blog so I guess you make the rules

but

from dictionary.com:

Prevail

1. to be widespread or current; exist everywhere or generally: Silence prevailed along the funeral route.
2. to appear or occur as the more important or frequent feature or element; predominate: Green tints prevail in the upholstery.
3. to be or prove superior in strength, power, or influence (usually fol. by over): They prevailed over their enemies in the battle.
4. to succeed; become dominant; win out: to wish that the right side might prevail.
5. to use persuasion or inducement successfully: He prevailed upon us to accompany him.

So you can use your bs defintion if you want but it is bs

I go with 2,3,4 & 5 (from definition)as it relates to this situation

I hope that crowley comes out on top

How about this

Gates will not admit to any wrongdoing

so I stand by my original comment

"gates will most likely prevail here because of the racism that exists in america."

Don't count the money or my vote yet!

All I can say (because I can see that you are not going to be a good loser here) is that if you look up two or three comments, you will see your buddy Danny there. Danny would NEVER agree with me on any political issue, but on this one you go down bigtime. But the bet is off and I'm going swimming.

Danny- Talk to your buddy. We were both saying the same thing and then he changed the bet so that if Gates does not apoligize, I lose. I thought the original bet was as to who would “prevail”... He changed it all around.. Is this how the Neocon brain works? I need to study the manual.

I can't speak for 'bob a', that's a "pinko, commie liberal" thing speaking for other people. However let me say this if I were him I'd be writing that check.

Oh, and for those of you who keep score this is a rare instance of "Agreeance" (sic) by Charles and me.

Black officer at Gates home during arrest said scholar acted strange, supports arrest
BOB SALSBERG | Associated Press Writer
12:57 PM CDT, July 24, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — A black police officer who was at Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s home when the black Harvard scholar was arrested says he fully supports how his white fellow officer handled the situation.

Sgt. Leon Lashley says Gates was probably tired and surprised when Sgt. James Crowley demanded identification from him as officers investigated a report of a burglary. Lashley says Gates' reaction to Crowley was "a little bit stranger than it should have been."

Asked if Gates should have been arrested, Lashley said supported Crowley "100 percent."

Gates has said he was the victim of racial profiling.

When will the beer summit be held? Can't find a projected date anywhere on the web.

Bob a said "Officer (actually Sergeant) Crowley doesn't have a chance. Well, Sergeant Crowley is looking awfully good right about now. His fellow cops support him, regardless of their race. His superiors support him as does the available record. This guy should be fine, as he deserves to be. My guess is that Gates is angling to keep the audiotapes of the arrest suppressed. They must be embarrassing. When Danny (with whom I agree a lot of the time) and Charles (with whom I agree some of the time) agree, that's big heat.

This has to be one of the stupidest news distractions ever. Gates is an idiot for overreacting and being way more Cambridge than Black. Crowley is an idiot for acting like a Robot and not a Human Being, Obama is an idiot for commenting inappropriately. And to hell with the national AND local news folks who are happy to stir up a "conversation about race" but can't ever seem to be objective.
Bah Humbug-

Chuck

Gates will prevail.

Gates has already had the charges dropped and still insists that Crowley acted inappropriately.

http://www.theroot.com/views/skip-gates-speaks

If it were me or you we would be in front of a judge.

I have not changed anything on my position.

Read carefully what you wrote and what I wrote and realize that it is YOU that came up with these wacked out "prevail" definitions.

Crowley is about to go to the whitehouse to meet Obama and his friend Gates.

Prediction:

There will be little to no comments from Crowley other than "We had a productive meeting and have resolved our differences and I will not comment furthur" and in six months he will have a very sweet government job.

btw

Feel free to call me a wingnut. Dittohead is a little out of line as I am not a neocon rush limbaugh guy rather a "Campaign for Liberty" Ron Paul type that goes against the neocon war machine that Obama has joined.

I think Pres. Obama should offer Sgt. Crowley a Secret Service job.

I'm beginning to think this is a perfect example of reverse racism and an example of classism.
If I were Crowley, I'd refuse Obama's invitation, and tell him if anyone was acting "stupid" it was Obama for making that statement before he had all the facts, or, getting involved in this tug of war to begin with. Love to hear what Gates said on the tape the cops made at the time of the arrest.

as always thoughtful debate on the issue of race should prevail!! What I get absolutely bullshit at is the rest of the country pointing fingers at this incident and saying,"what do you expect its boston?" with regards to racial profiling the woman who called police didnt specify the race of the alleged burglar when she said someone pushed in the door and if you believe that this was a racial profiling incident then if she had said the person was white who broke in would the police have not responded? werent there nine other breakins in that area recently? The fact is anytime I have ever been asked by a police officer for ID I have complied and guess what? I have never been arrested?
And this is what I have to say to those who point the finger from their anchor chairs in tv studios around the country cambridge is a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants er eh undocumented workers, cambridge has had an african-american police commissioner, massachusetts has an african american governor, massachusetts overwhelmingly voted for the first african american President so can boston really be called a racist city? BY extension massachusetts? This is the blue est state in the country so does that mean boston is liberal and racist? (aside from robert byrd, al sharpton, jerimiah wright, george wallace, strohm thurmond before he changed parties arent racists suppose to be republicans) so then what makes boston a racist city? is because of bussing? Charles stuart? then by that rational every other state that minorities have been discriminated against is as "racist" well. wasnt boston a big player in the underground railroad? so if we are goin to be selective about recalling incidents with racial impact then lets look at the positive ones too? like the 54th massachusetts regiment? what makes a city racist? who gets to decide? why dont people stick up for their city/ state? I hate the tax policy of this state but I'll be damned if i am going to sit back and let idiots level un-substantiated comments like that go unchecked! maybe they are right, maybe this is just another example of the white man keeping the black man down, although I think it is safe to say having painted the dubois institute for african american studies at 104 mt auburn st in cambridge and having seen Henry Gate's office he makes far more in annual income than Sgt. Crowley does and judging from the attention of this incident he stands to make alot more so I cant help but wonder was this a brilliant case of PR capitalization on Gates part or just an unfortunate incident? anyway I know Im not going to be invited to the whitehouse to have a beer with the President, I bet they even have Old millewauki there!!

Amusing that bob a misspelled "furthur" in the same way the Merry Pranksters did on the destination sign of their bus. A coincidence, or.......?

crowley looked like a beaten dog after his beer pow wow

No apology or backing down from Gates

I say Gates has prevailed and you have welched on the bet!

I am not mad at you...
just pretend we are sitting in a bar and I am wagging my finger at you and laughing my ass off!!

don't be a sore loosa now and say I changed things...cause I didn't
