All you have to do is examine the unemployment, GNP and Inflation figures from 1932-1940, then tell me it was the New Deal that ended the Great Depression and not WWII. As the saying goes, "those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it." Great post Charles.
Oh my god- I agree with Danny!
It was the assertive congregation of Industry and American sacrifice toward a common goal which invigorated the economy. Rationing, metal collection for bullets, tanks, ships and planes, a massive government employment effort to build bullets,tanks, ships and planes. A propaganda program to be patriotic and even government entertainment to bolster the morale of America while the world was in crises.
Though If it were Prescott Bush instead of FDR in the White House- we'd have goose-stepped together with our German economic friends. *shudder*
