JP being JP

It just takes one guy to bring an entire team down, and that’s exactly what was happening.”

it's just a damned shame how things turned out. Manny was so wonderful for a long time. He's a great ball player, but not great at playing ball, so to speak.

Cleveland was glad to see him go to. Arguably one of the greatest hitters in the game today, he's definitely a couple of fries short of a happy meal. I remember seeing him play in Cleveland and he wasn't even aware a fly ball was hit until Omar Visquel (sic?) then Tribe shortstop started to yell at him. Needless to say the ball wasn't caught. When I'm elected Dictator I'm going to do three things.
a. Outlaw Artificial Turf
b. Do away with the Designated Hitter
c. Ban dopey haircuts and weaves

Manny is an asshole, plain and simple. Every year for the eight years he was at spring training with the red sox the Jimmy fund sent a group of cancer patients and their families down to spring training and they had a tent set up for the ball players to come and meet the "Jimmy fund camp kids" and every year when asked by the media who the kids wanted to meet the majority of the kids said Manny Ramirez and do you know how many times manny went to visit those kids in his eight seasons? ZERO not once did he even acknowledge those kids, he has the distinct honor of being the only member of the red sox to never greet the jimmy fund kids at all. Then theres tim wakefield who goes to see the kids every day at camp. Or like the time tim wakefield and a group of players went to dana farber to visit with kids stricken with cancer and at the end of one particular tour there was a nurse in a room where a kid had missed the chance to see the ball players because he was having his chemo therapy and the nurse wwanted to make sure that she got autographs for the boy, when she told tim wakefield that the boy was so upset because he was going to miss all the players tim wakefield waited something like two hours until the boy returned to his room and he sat and talked baseball with him signed autographs and took pictures with his family, that is something to be admired not manny's bullshit, inmature antics. so long manny, i wont miss you, unlike those kids at spring training who missed you every year for eight years!!

Good lookin' out Pap. I was waiting for someone from the Sox to share their experiences with Manny. Yeah, he was great but a real calbron.

MM: I wasn't aware of the Jimmy Fund thing, but because of your post, I googled it. That's very sad. Here's a Herald piece on the subject:

Manny is a man with God given talent that no one on earth today shares -- and he will not share his time or his celebrity with those kids that worship and look up to him. Ball players as well as other athletes do not want the mantle of role model, but that's what comes with the job. Every ball player, no matter how his career is going, how minor his playing status is, has a fan base. Do they owe something back to the fans that pay to watch them compete/perform or to the kids that watch the teams on television? Sure they do.
When it comes time for Manny to "hang up the spikes" and become part of baseball history I'm guessing history will look at his spirit more than his talent and stories as this will dominate his legacy.

Bill, I'll see your Cabron and raise you a..(gasp)...Pinche Cabron. Manny is a loser in the terms that really matter in life and when one considers that all he is is an adult(?) playing a kids game.
Ditto for Roger and Johnny "Jesus" and ...oh well the list goes on and don't even get me going on football (you know... the kind played with hands! ;-))

And it seems that everyone forgets that when Manny signed with the Red Sox...he promised on his televised press conference that he would be giving $1,000,000 of his $18,000,000 salary every year to Boston youth. He never even gave one cent. Manny's a piece of shit...he has the maturity of an 11 year old, but not the integrity.
