Perhaps you missed the story about the cops shooting the chimp. I believe it was in Connecticut.

Did not miss that cop story at all. But then, perhaps you missed the FACT that the Negro/chimpanzee comparison has been a universally-known racist symbol throughout American history. The moral in this case might be, “If the shoe fits- you don't always wear it- especially if it has KKK decals all over it.”
I also understand that one can be overly sensitive about the whole PC thing- but this is not the time to fuck with that philosophical argument- Too much at stake here: the first Black President, gun-nuts with mental problems, a free-world market in total chaos, racist rednecks who just lost their homes, etc. We ALL know people who still get a kick out of making N__ jokes; and to stick your head in the sand and cry ”liberal foul” at any criticism of this cartoon's implications is not cool at this time in history..” I'm thinkin'..

Drill,
You get it...however the PC Victims will never understand this is in NO way a racist affront to the President.

B. Dover: How's the air down in that sandbox?
lol

You People.

VG, I know it's in your nature to try to use an accusation of racism as a bludgeon to shut people up who don't agree with you, therefore you can't help it. Frankly, it took me quite a while to make the connection you jumped to right away. I saw the 2 biggest news stories of the day melded together in a clever way. I suggest you put the joint down. You'll see the paranoia dissipate quickly.

Now go shave your legs.

Charles,
It's obviously a swipe at Pelosi who wrote the so-called "Stimulus Bill". If anything the PC Victims should decry this as an insult to a women. Is that Glass Belly Button you have so you can see where you are going?

Well, obviously vermont gal and me are not alone in our “liberal paranoia”.. Read the newspapers, the blogs and watch your TV news shows. It seems like quite a few others are a bit upset as well. Must be a paranoia virus going around. Let's ship us all off to PC Desensitization Camps for re-programming.

What do you mean by "You People!" Your prejudice is showing drill! You just assume that all women from Vermont know how to use a razor or even what shaving is! That is just wrong so so wrong!

You know what bothers me about this whole thing is that it is already hard for people to criticize Black politicians (Obama and deval Patrick)and with the racial implications of this cartoon I think it will definately cause people to think twice about openly criticizing Obama, even if he deserves it. I never heard one complaint about the many chaterctorizations of George W., Including racist comments by Kanye west. I wonder if Hillary Clinton still believes its patriotic to disagree with any administration?

Liberal hypocrisy,
See if this cartoon appeared in the NY Times, Washington Post , Boston Globe, CNN, MSNBC your usual suspects. This would not even be a headline. See when a Liberal establishment makes this type of analogy
it's " satire" or free speech. "You just don't understand" See, good Liberals can defend a Jesus painting made of elephant crap, Sinead-O'connor ripping up a picture of the Pope or Madonna having sex with the Cross. Reverend Wright with the US of A- KKK . Hillary ain't no N...where was Al Sharpton and Charles that day? That is racism, not this. Its not a racist cartoon, far from it. If the cops shot a dog, the cartoon would have been the same with a picture of a shot dog instead. This PC crap is out of control.

All this is designed to keep America's eye off the ball. The ball is Obama and all his screwed up cabinet appointments and this socialist spending that's not going to fix anything.. How about some front page stories on that??

Some people around here scare the Bejesus out of me

I feel your pain, Jan. And they're all pontificating (from under the covers in the same bed)- so sincere...
Sad.. Makes you want to jump off the train and find another place to hide from them and live without them; (away from the din and the tired, old, self-righteously vicious, right-wing rationalizing they spew out) doesn't it?
Funny thing is, they are totally nice people in real life-

I didn't read the comments, but if I was going to compare any president to a monkey or ape, it would have been Bush.

Yeah the "monkey" metaphor is a well known racial slur. But the trained-chimp metaphor for a shoddy job is equally well known and is only a slur against chimps and well, Registry employees. (Remember: George W. was depicted as a chimp many times and no one called it racist. See bushorchimp.com) I was very offended by the Curious George effigies of Obama during the campaign; I was not quick to jump to racial conclusions about this cartoon. To me it is likely that the cartoonist was referring to the "trained-chimp" figure of speech, not the racist "monkey." I do think the editors should have seen it coming, though, since that's their job. Just as Obama's speechwriters should have caught the wholly unintentional "lipstick-on-a-pig"=Palin debacle and the less-covered but equally funny/horrible Charlie-Crist-is-here-to-grab-a-hose oratory fiasco.

Where have all the wordsmiths gone? long time passing...

I would not think it was funny to see a cartoon of a monkey (symbolizing Bush) lying bleeding on the ground with three bullet holes in him. Sorry everybody- that cartoon was loaded with trouble and the editor should have known better. for the first time I disagree with my conservative colleagues.
