Sharing some inner thoughts

I thought Hillary's speech was brilliant. I almost cried a few times watching her. Same with Michelle Obama, President Clinton, the Bidens, Kerry, etc. They all kicked in with their personal best and it was something to behold.

But I have a weird feeling about this election..
No matter how great the Dems show themselves to be at the Convention, no matter how inspired and brilliant the rhetoric, no matter how logical their arguments are; no matter how important the next four years are that we change direction- Right now, I just don't see it happening... Maybe it's just my mood today..(Bleh!)

A liberal friend of mine was saying that he loved Obama, but he was unsure of how Obama would handle areas of “national security”.. It is so strange- talking with all these people- and listening to their reasons for not wanting to vote for Barrack Obama: “I like him, but-...” (Not talking wing nuts here- just talking about moderates, independents and Hillary lovers). They all seem to be abandoning ship, for whatever reasons.

I think I am going to be physically, mentally and emotionally sick on the morning of November 5.
I reserve the right to change my mood and my mind about all this.

I second the weird feeling Charles. It doesn't help when all the major news outlets including PBS led into the convention with only stories about how divided the Democratic party is and how Obama should be further ahead. You would think it MIGHT be a big story that this is our first African American presidential nominee of a major party, but nobody felt that that was worth reporting on. It is if all the media got the same memo.

Of course gas prices have decreased, right on schedule, a few months before the election. And surprise! A timetable for pulling out of Iraq came out of nowhere. It seems the Republicans noticed they had some problems, so they threw in some temporary fixes to dupe the American public.

I hate to add to your angst, but I was talking to a cousin in Florida, she was a Hillary supporter and she asked me what my "gut feeling" was telling me and... at that moment, I said, "I think a lot of people want Obama, but... when they get behind that curtain and it's just them and the pen, their hand is going to fill in the McCain circle and they're going to feel realllly shitty when they slip that paper in the slot and their not going to want to talk to anyone about it and they're going to feel even more shitty the next day".
I hope that I'm wrong.

Charles, I feel as uncomfortable as you...when I hear Hillary supporters talking about voting for Mcain it feels like something out of Alice in Wonderland..It boggles my mind how they can think that Obama would be a worse choice..Mcain the the Repubs platform is so completely different than anything Hillary was talking about....one more time the "fear card" rears it's ugly head...

Charles ,
Did you cry when Michelle Obama says America is a mean county? How about when she said "for the first time in her life she felt proud of her county" ? How about when she sat in that racist church for 20 years and listened to the pastor who spreads hate for America. She says America is flawed but her church and Tony Resco and so on get a pass. The speech was not who she is. America has already seen the real Michelle before Monday night and reject her hate for this country.

Did you cry for all the investors of WhiteWater that Bill and Hillary stole life savings from? Did you cry for them? How about the 100k she made on cattle futures, I'm sure no one lost on that deal. Castle Grande real estate?? Should I go on.....

Bottom line, running a county takes more than a good speech. Like Hillary says.....

" I know Senator McCain has a lifetime of experience to bring to the White House. And Senator Obama has a speech he gave in 2002."

That's why liberals lose big elections. They vote with emotion and not facts or reality. If your party could learn to separate that, then you would win more elections and nominate the candidate with the best resume, not the one that puts on the best production (its not a Hollywood movie, its real life).

Bill Clinton was the only one to figure this one out. Act like a conservative not a liberal when your running, Lie Lie Lie and then when you get in the white house take off your mask.

Speaking of Wingnuts. Hi, Robbie- How goes the mechanical neocon talking head?

you must rid your mind of any possible outcome besides obama winning this thing, do not think any thought other than him winning, do you understand? thoughts are things;, that is the first thing we must all do, there is no way that obama will not get the most votes, period

I still like Joe Biden.

Charles and the rest of you:
Be optimistic!

I supported Hillary all the way up to the end! I'm voting for Barack because he won the most votes in the primaries. I don't see a good reason to vote for McCain and I'm an Independent voter.

I do respect the fact that McCain is a veteran, but why should I vote for him? I see nothing appealing about him. I rather vote for Barack.

Just remember one thing: I voted for Deval Patrick for Massachusetts Governor and he won! I have no regrets in doing that.

I welcome the "uncertain" factor in Obama. in contrast to the certain "bushiness" in
McCain. Barry will surround himself (much like Deval does) with very smart people and manage them. This is what we want in a president. Not a Guy who surrounds himself with advisors and then ignores them (Like a certain current president fuckhead)

Joe Biden was my primary favorite- and indeed- this shows Obama is NOT going for a celebrity cabinet - but one that will get things done.

I would much rather have a president who is highly intelligent than one who sees military action as the answer to every international situation. That's not how you make America secure. People talk about McCain's "experience" but his record doesn't show any talent for foreign policy. His reaction to Russia's incursion into Georgia was plain scary and he's been proven wrong on so many of his positions. If he chooses Mitt, another super-rich, super-conservative, super-capitalist as his vp... it will be the 1950's all over again! And if you're not thrilled with the economy after eight years of republican management, keep in mind that anyone who makes less than about $200,000 a year and votes for another republican administration is a fool. They are not on your side!

He just might not win after all. Just got this from hubby:

Diebold -- well, the company-formerly-known-as-Diebold -- finally admits, after years of refusing to discuss, then denying, then blaming the problem on anti-virus software, that its machines' programming causes errors that can lose votes:

http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2008/08/diebold_finally.html

I suppose this is "news" in the same way that it was news when tobacco companies finally admitted that they knew there was a link between smoking and cancer. Worse: the damned things will still not be replaced in time for the November elections.

Well Chaz, I'm afraid the white guy gets elected again, as usual.

The funny thing is that McCain's 30 years in the Senate makes him a maverick but Biden's makes him a 'Washington insider'. PR flack being the opposite of reality.

In reality, THERE IS NO JOB that prepares you for the Presidency. Everyone taking that office had to learn on the job. Clinton could have done a better job pounding that home. In essence, even a buffoon like W. couldn't cause a total collapse of our economy and security (true another term and he might have succeeded). The presidency rolls along on the momentum of a large team of players.

In the end, I'll take good judgment over experience any day. McCain is heavily flawed. He's an opportunist who has been given everything he has. Without going into the disturbing inconsistencies of his war record, he is as dirty as any pol in Washington. He is clearly not a deep thinker or analytically adept. He also has anger management issues. He is basically a less brainy Cheney (only even older).

Bottom line, Biden is probably the smartest and most knowledgable guy on the Hill. And if you went solely by resume, he is the best qualified man to be President (Joe/Hillary would have been interesting). While McCain is creepy, Biden is unquestionably warm, human and genuine. There's your white guy report.

Brilliant? Come on Charles open your eyes - the only thing brilliant about it is that she was able to get through the whole speech without voicing her disgust with Obama. In fact if you listened carefully you would have noticed that she never said that "she" supported Obama.

And to listen to the endless diatribe of we're right and your wrong was disgusting. Hypocrisy is what the whole gang of them is about.

Yea Obama's real intelligent - that is when he is reading from a teleprompter - take it away from him and all of a sudden we have 58 states and he introduces Biden as the next president. I would sooner vote for his speech writer. And he has soo much compasion. He lives in a 4+ million dollar home while his brother George lives in a hut and survives on a few dollars a month. So much for compassion starting at home.

And Biden (who IS one of the wealthiest in congress)said Obama is not ready to be president - but I guess that changes once your selected for VP. What would you expect from a man who plagiarized a British politicians speech.

Michelle - the woman who left a law firm for "a career in public service". Since when is a 275K job at a private hospital public service. And have you read her college thesis?

As for Pelosi - the woman who heads a congress that has passed less legislation and more feel good resolutions than any other congress in recent history. The same congress that now has a 9 percent approval rating. nancy - sit down and shut up.

I could go on but I'm sure your blood pressure is over 200 right now. How dare someone criticize the idols of the Demorat party.

McCain does not fill me with excitement but at least he isn't a socialist.

I to have a bad feeling about November 5th - I believe the liberal media will pull out all stops to get Obama elected. And if he doesn't I'm still worried about the 5th. I keep hearing how this isn't about race but.....If Obama loses there will be endless cries of foul play and rigged votes which will stir up the masses into what can turn out to be a very ugly point in our history.

Rich, clearly you don't like Obama, but you don't say why. You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but you lose credibility by getting the facts wrong. Obama's house in Chicago (which I'm sure is a lot nicer than mine or yours) is currently valued at $1,521,000 (Chicago Assesors Office). Not too shabby, but not $4 million either. And Biden, though not a pauper, is in fact the least wealthy of the current senators, according to the government's General Accounting Office. You did get the part about McCain not being a Socialist right, though.

Is that Rich from Rich's Car-Tunes up there? He dated my next door neighbor.

Anyway, Chuck, you can take this to the bank. There's more Rich's than there are us. Obama will never be elected. A black man will never be elected in our lifetime. Sad but true.

(Uh, your lifetime. I'm not THAT old YET!)

Well Rich, My BP is fine but after listening to Barack’s litany of Bush failures, if I were Republican, I’d be pretty cranky too. I still would have held off making a lame hypocrisy comment, however, out of respect for Mark Foley, Larry Craig et al.

The Dems. have only controlled Congress for 18 mos. so before you start lambasting them for doing nothing you should take a look at the legislative coma that has prevailed over the Hill for the 12 years of Rep. control

Also Biden IS NOT one of the wealthiest member of Congress. In fact as far as assets go; McCain is the 17th richest member of Congress and Biden is 576th. You might wanna actually back your rants up with fact.

Whether Osama is a celebrity or not, he put more asses in seats than the Eagles and he energized them to a frenzy. Those are the people you have to worry about, they believe and I’m afraid no one is that excited about the old guy. If you don’t think celebrity made the difference for JFK then maybe Ronnie and Arnie would change your mind.

ZJ,

You know I love ya', but how can you be the 576th richest member of a Congress that has only 535 members?

Good one mono, nice to know people still think.
Sorry it was a typo, next time I'll proof read. Biden is 376 on the list.
I found another interesting list of politicians who have benefitted most from the war because of investments in the defense sector.
The Top 10 features 7 Rep. and 3 Dems. including Kerry, ironically.

No worries Charles. My Gut, which is usually right-on says Obama. Keep the faith baby. He's up in the polls now and McCain's VP pick hurts him.

Ok I slipped up on Bidens wealth and Obama's house. That does not dimenish the fact that Obama has chosen to ignore family in persuit of politics. I have not spoken to my brother since our mother passed but I would still give him a kidney if he were in need.

I wouldn't say I don't like Obama - what i don't like is his agenda. And I get disgusted by the way he has been idolized by the media - for what? - no one can tell me. All I hear are the parrots repeating the words they hear without comprehending their meaning.

Now I see all of the democrat idols are being praised and the republicans criticized. These democrat idols have as much - if not more - dirt in their closets than their counterparts.

To sit there and praise people like Hillary as brilliant and criticize every word out of McCains mouth shows a complete failure to look at the overall picture. Going through life on a one way street with blinders on is what pack mules due -

KJ - I disagree - Obama will get elected - if not this term then the next - either way I still fear the day after.

McCain sold us out as a nation and as group of human beings under one roof, which is America, by playing a dangerous game just to .... win. You mean to tell me that this woman, who, in her own words, described herself as a hockey mom, mayor of a town of 8-9,000 people, governor (for 2 years) of a state of 675,000 people, is qualified to be the leader of the Free World, the United States of America because she has "executive experience", her son signed up for the army on 9/11 (!!!) and is being deployed on .....9/11(!!!!!) (coincidence? What Great Sound-Bite Timing!!!), her husband is a regular Joe, but, of course, he's a "UNION MAN".... do I want her to be my president? Do I want her to be in charge of this country, with all that that entails, because, let's face it, McCain's health is precarious, to say the least- how many times has he relapsed with malignant melanoma, and what are the chances that he'll relapse again?
So McCain plays this chess move. Trumps Obama's wonderful moment to enjoy the fruits of his great speech, by shocking the world with this...choice, and all the Conservative pundits are a buzzin' "She's a great choice! He pulled off a Big One" and all their lemmings are calling in "Yes! The Emperor not only has new clothes, why they're fabulous, they're ..... darn right, Stupendous" and in all the hysteria, you take a step back, mouth open and just go, "Do the Republicans hate this country so much that they would sell us all out for a win? Are they really just taking the "no experience" jab and shoving it up our asses with this choice". Are they really so blind and disrespectful to a person like Obama who, I think, really is a deep thinker and an intellectual" and is trying to help us, we're in such deep shit, just to try to show their lemmings that they can put this person forward and say "Look, we gave you Hillary AND Obama in one stroke, a woman AND someone who is "inexperienced" AND she's a member of the NRA, She's got 5 kids, her son is in the military going to Iraq, her husband is a Union Man, and she's a rabid pro-lifer to boot, so now, just go Fuck yourselves! You should be happy!"

Rich - I think Obama has several half brothers so you still don't quite have your straight talk express right. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6333496

Charles - I've been on the phone constantly this afternoon as my circle of friends dissect the convention speeches and McCain's VP pick right here in Dayton at 12:15 this afternoon. She is no Hillary! But we too worry what the next 69 days will bring. If it is a question of race then this will have to be played differently than it is starting. If it is a question of properly dealing with the Rove like attack machine I pray Obama fights back and does it in a timely fashion.

But until the next weeks reveal themselves we too will be watching closely and I hope we don't have to hold our breaths too long.

I kind of like Obama but I have some concerns about how he doesn't seem to have been in politics long enough and I am concerned about his stance on National Security. I wish I could see what he really thinks and not just what people ie: the democratic party want him to say. But my other concern is that because he is black, some psycho will try to take him out. There has already been one threat. It worries me. We like to think we are more advanced in our relations but we are not as advanced as we think. I pray for his safety alot. I may not agree with him all the time but that doesn't mean he needs to be taken out.

Heidi

Rich,

Don't know about your pursuits beyond the blog, but talk to your brother before anyone needs a kidney.

Hi Heidi,
(did you work at BCN?)
When you think about some psycho taking him out you also have to consider the possibility of McCain's heart giving out. Either possibility has about the same probability. In either case thnk about who would be the next world leader, Biden or Palin.

Rich - you live in a world driven by fear of the things that scare you whether they are true or not. I hope that you can someday think about your choices based on what is best for you and not what scares you the most. And I would also like to remind you (and Charles) that there is a two post limit on any thread in this forum and you have had four so stuff it cause I know you won't be allowed to respond to this post.

One canididate is scary. The other is old. Old I can live with. Ronald Reagan where are you? :-(

John Edwards Speech Cancelled

John Edwards has been banned from making a speech at the democratic convention for having an affair, pretending to love his faithful wife, and lying about it.

Such a bastard, low life.

In his place Bill Clinton will be speaking.

Hi Bruce K. I'm violating the more than one posting rule. (ha). Nope, never worked at BCN. I've worked in an insurance agency, a rehab hospital, a chiropractor's office, a union office and as a teen in a hospital cafeteria.
Now, I make greeting cards by hand because I had to stop working because of epilepsy. Why do you ask? I was kind of a nerd and definitely would not have fit in with a BCN crowd.
