I've got to say this for Buchanan. The guy not only knows his world history, but also knows how to reference it in terms of current affairs AND makes the pols in the White House as well as the ones spouting off to the press look like moronic instigators with no clue as to what they are talking about.

As someone who is now legally old enough
to watch Crossfire- I have to say that
Buchanan is very smart and comes across
as a conservative but NOT a neo-con.
He's very un-FOX, in that he doesn't
take that "Democrat = Communist" stance
that most conservatives take- however
that doesn't mean he isn't a fascist like most republicans. see:

We all have our flaws. :)
But, you can't deny that he calls it as he sees it and doesn't care if it's attacking his own party. He's got a great knowledge of World History and gives great insight into the deeper understanding chessgames that play out on the current world stage, and, in doing that, really lays bare how TOTALLY naive, stupid, uninformed.... call it whatever you want, the current leaders, both in the White House and Congress are like the Beatles in that cartoon series during the 60's- that is, a bunch of young, goofy silly guys falling out of the car when the door opens.

I've become quite a fan of Buchanan who is very well read. By his own admission the kind of conservatism he practices has been effectively abandoned by the GOP.
That said, there is no question that a first year major in foreign policy would learn that baiting the Russians by tempting a bordering nation with membership to NATO would result in retaliation and an escalation of tensions.
But then this admin. has shown a shocking ignorance of basic international relations and world history.

... which goes to show you how STUPID Condi Rice is since she's supposed to be such an expert in Russian/Cold War Relations and History. I mean, she passes Colin Powell in the race to the finish line in OBSOLESCENCE.
