Doctors see injustice in their profession every day, but only a rare few are willing to make the personal sacrifice necessary to act on their moral convictions. While doctors have always assisted suicides behind closed doors, recipients of these acts of compassion remain a selected few. Jack Kervorkian is a hero. This country's death-denying culture needed Dr. Kervorkian's brand of in-your-face activism to force our heads out of the sand. Freedom of choice at the end of life is the ultimate human right.

Will legalized suicide be included in Obama's National Health Plan? Will Ted Kennedy sign up? Will McCain offer it to poor minorities as part of his health plan to "level the playing field" so to speak. Will the NRA be sure to pass legislation to allow you and your doctor to use a hand-gun as a "free choice" in a democratic society? Can we stand making so many decisions, such as, if I jump off the Golden Gate Bridge, is it okay if my doctor is present? How about the doctors just handing out a few cartons of Luckies to those seeking to "pass over"?
