May I Vent?

Let's start with this video.
After you watch it, and perhaps form an opinion, please read my feelings about it by clicking below. Then I would be interested to read your opinions.

It has always been my opinion that Glen Beck is an asshole, and this video which someone just sent me, confirms it.

Bottom line is, there are millions of people out there- some recognized and many more not recognized- who have done incredible things for mankind. The really despicable people (in my opinion) are those who tear down some one who may have been deserving of recognition (Al Gore in this case) by pointing out another person who has done more and did not get the official award.

Set aside for a moment what you think of Al Gore as a politician or as a leader. How do we know why whoever is on this Prize committee makes their decisions? Let's rip them to shreds for choosing Gore over Irena Sandler. I can understand that, but- You may want to find out why they did that first- or, if you want to blindly lynch how, why and which committee members made that decision, that's fine; it's your noose.
But for Glenn Beckhole to just sit there and pontificate about the decision not to select Sandler for the prize, while in the same breath insulting Al Gore and what Gore has achieved is pretty despicable. (If you don't believe Gore has brought to the Public Eye and awakened America more than any other human being alive today on the dangers we all face with global warming, then either you haven't been paying attention, or you have joined the Neocon thereisnoglobalwarming Brigade).
Anyway, I digress. Bottom line is: A responsible journalist or commentator does not take the easy tack of insulting and bad-rapping the winner of a contest, just because they felt there was a person out there who deserved it more. If you must insult, degrade and criticize- then go after those who made the decision- not the winner who had no part in the decision-making process.
That's High Road 101. Glen Beck flunked that course.

Comments

The fact that Gore and Carter won the prize demonstrate the irrelevancy of the Nobel. True heroes of humanity should be awarded not Socialist gerrymanderers.

To tbone:
You left out Henry Kissinger; or is it possible you might have agreed with that one? (ha)

Sorry, I can't hear you with Al Gore's dick in your mouth.

Charles,
On most things you are so cutting edge, Oh well.

There are hundreds of scientists who wonder how their names got on the U.N global warming charter. The polar caps on Mars are melting. The sun is getting hotter and it is proven that sun spots play a large role in warming the Earth. There are lots of concerns that I have about the environment like deforestation, genetic manipulation, water poison, industrial waste, archaic fuels being used and assholes treating the Earth like it is a frat house because they feel that the rapture is near or that the Earth and all of it's beings are not sacred and nothing is.
I know why the global warming agenda exists. There are the elites who want to reduce the population to 600 million. Just read the Club of Rome documents and pay attention to what the CFR writes in their Foreign Affairs Magazine. Charles, you seem like a CFR kind of guy.

Look, I think Glenn Beck is a self-serving neo-con prick who lies to people like most others on TV. He is on the level of Al Gore(pretty fucking low level). I am not joining his(Gore's) cult. He deserves the irrelevant prize like Kissinger did. The left has their version of the war on terror to scare us. Over thousands of years there have been massive warming and cooling trends that dwarf this period in history. Even my environmental science college class went over that. Look Chuck, you are a condescending bastard and you are too set in your ways. You are just like my republican father-in-law, just on the other end. I bet if 9-11 happened on Clinton regime, you would believe their bullshit. You are not a critical thinker in many ways. Stuff it, pal.

There are data that support the position that global warming is caused by factors in addition to recent (very recent, in geological scale) changes in our atmosphere. But hotter sun and melting icecaps on Mars are not among them. The global warming "agenda" exists because, regardless of the cause, a very slight rise in global temperature will, among other things, change weather patterns, relocate deserts, cause significant changes in the
plant and animal hierarchy on the planet, just as other small changes have in millenia past. Draw whatever conclusion you want, but don't bury your head in the sand.

Notice how it is so difficult for otherwise intelligent people to get past their Al Gore pantspiss that they can't even respond objectively to the question that is being begged here: Namely, Who should be blamed for the “misappropriation” of the Nobel Peace Prize: the winner of the prize? ..or the people who gave him/her the prize? Such psychotic spewing is really depressing.

Oh yeah, the prize. The prize is pretty meaningless, except in a political sense. You have it right, Charles, some of the most incredible people go unrecognized...and they don't care. And also the part about Glen Beck being an asshole.

I nominate Charles Laquidera for the Nobel Peace Prize! Then when he loses Beck can use him as an example.

I don't think the prize is meaningless.
But it's like winning the Country Music Awards.
I do think Glenn Beck does his best for ratings.
Look - the only way to attract attention these days is to say something so outrageously STOOPID that it forces everyone to comment outloud or to think evil thoughts and stew.
Suddenly, everyone's a clown in the media circus!
And yes this applies to the Nobel selection committee.

On the other hand, they could have given one to George Bush for making Iraq safe from WMDs. Same shit different poop hole.

Uh...what color is he?

The Nobel Peace Prize committee certainly should have recognized Irena a very long time ago and gave her the prize. Obviously, this TV anchorman doesn't see that and decides to pick on Al Gore for winning the prize.

I have never heard of this Glen Beck because I don't have cable anymore. Comcast charges too much for it. If I did still have cable, I still wouldn't be watching this guy. He seems very dull.

OK, just imagine Glenn Beck actually criticizing the Nobel Committee. He might actually have to educate his audience about who they are, how they are chosen, and might actually have to repeat their rationale for choosing Gore. He might have to speak about Europe as being something more than a vacationland for Americans. This is not what he is being paid to do.

He is a mouthpiece for the corporations, and most corporations don't like limits on their money-making opportunities, even if what they do is contributing to environmental devastation or any other social ills. His job is to convince people that Gore is an evil mouthpiece for those who would like to take away our liberties. Irena Sandler is just the convenient prop to try to tarnish this award and take away some of the momentum of the movement to stop global warming. Based on what I'm reading here he and others like him are doing a fine job.

And Charles, there really are no real journalists on mainstream television anymore. A few have their rare moments, but until the media consolidation is reversed, there will be no independent journalistic voices taking our leaders to task. It is all just a big show and not worth getting your panties in bunch.

Charles,
With all this talk about esteemed Nobel Lauriat’s how could we ever forget Chairman Yassar Arafat. BTW, Bill M nailed you i.e.
"Look Chuck, you are a condescending bastard and you are too set in your ways. You are just like my republican father-in-law, just on the other end. I bet if 9-11 happened on Clinton regime, you would believe their bullshit. You are not a critical thinker in many ways. Stuff it, pal."
Regarding the so called "Movement to Stop Global Warming", give me a Fucking Break!!

Charles, I don't know this guy, Beck, but he's entitled to his opinion. Aside from the political ramifications of giving the Peace Prize to Al Gore so quickly after his movie, giving the Peace Prize to ..... Jimmy Carter???? and Yasser Arafat??????, it only goes to prove that in fairly recent years or decades, the prize has become a political tool for pushing agendas. Having said that, what Beck DID do (and you too, for that matter) is make us aware of this woman's selfless contributions to the survival of an ethnic group and for that, it wasn't a wasted effort. Who needs that damned prize anyway- it holds too many obligations and empty promises.

t-bone and h,
To denigrate Jimmy Carter for getting the Nobel Peace prize is not only ignorant, it's just plain stupid. The Camp David Accords were the closest the Middle East EVER came to a lasting peace, and probably ever will. Jimmy Carter may not have been a great president time will tell, but Charles is right about the way these comments are going down. People are using their own preconceived prejudices to judge the participants in all of these issues, rather than the issues themselves. I don't know what C was thinking when he referred to Glen Beck as a journalist, but I suppose if Mike Barnicle can call himself one..

I wish I had time to write a thoughtful response, but I need to call Animal Control and have a Polar Bear removed from my backyard.

While Jimmy Carter is making out with Hamas there are 4 polar bears right now that are a little warmer than they are comfortable with. We need to prioritize.

"People are using their own preconceived prejudices to judge the participants in all of these issues, rather than the issues themselves."

So Ellen R, I take it you haven't known Charles that long:-)
