Your mission- (should you choose to take it):
1. Examine the problem.
2. Come up with a solution.
... and when using the term "fascists." Know exactly what you are saying

You can’t negotiate with Islama Fascism. I suggest you watch the film teaser for “Obsession” again and perhaps re-read “The Rise and Fall of The Third Reich”. Appeasement is not a Solution.

The attacks are not occurring like a blitzkreig on Britain, or an all-out invasion of Poland. To compare this to that is apples and oranges. The enemy is not one sovereign nation in one or two designated areas. It is groups of people who are in pockets of locations all over the world. If "appeasement" (your words- not the author's) If dialogue and negotiation is not the solution- then what is? Wait- I can guess: Nuke em all! (Am I getting warm?)

With whom are you going to negotiate? They have no unity but HATRED.

Joe,
Don't confuse Almond Joy with reality. He doesn't function in that realm.

Where is the Nelson Mandela, the Martin Luther King, the Ghandi, the pick-your-favorite charismatic visionary leader for the good side, for the Muslims who are open to hearing the truth. The West is not out to destroy Islam and jihad is not in their best interests. I don't know how to find such a leader, but I find it hard to believe that there are not potential candidates out there, and if one were to have a global podium, aided by video, internet, etc., he or she would start educating people before they decide to become jihadists.

There are Islamic groups who do not follow the extremists, correct?
I feel that, maybe, in a show of unity and good faith, our nation should do more to embrace them. Promote the good of Islam. The basic message of almost every religion is love. It is the human element which changes the message and lands it in the crap heap.
Has anyone ever played "Operator"? The message is always screwed up after 5 minutes and only 10 people! Imagine how messed up a 2,000 year old (or more) message gets.
I know that to say we should embrace Islam is a bit out there, given todays sentiments and mistrust. The hatred is bred from a misunderstanding or lack of knowledge. I admittedly know very little of Islam. I do know, however, to not just go on what was in that video. There must be another story. The radical side of the Islamic nation is whom we SHOULD stifle, but how is the question.
Educate, expose, divide, and conquer.
Love Bless Us All,
F

This is very sobering viewing, but I cannot say I am surprised. Did the US government think it could sling its weight around the world forever with no repercussions? As Malcolm X would say, the chickens have come home to roost. We have no one but ourselves to blame for this nightmare, and having watched my government do the wrong thing time after time, I have no expectations that it will do otherwise now.
BTW, the term "Islamo-fascism" is completely silly and false. Someone needs to re-read the definition of fascism and try again.

Susan, your post is, unfortunately, right on! the right wing of our country will never begin to make headway with force. Dialogue with diplomacy are a route not taken by the current administration. In years past governments waited for an administration change to implement dialogue. I'm not sure an admimistration change without changes in our attitude toward our freinds and foes alike will matter...

Not to sound like a hateful AMERICAN , but I still feel as though we should have given a 48 hour warning.(which is to allow the innocent time to leave). And then instead of bombs, we should have dropped coal tar and other paving materials. this would provide the innocent plenty of room to park their camels.

Dave, where did you want to do this? I assume everywhere but, your back yard...

To chas h:
I must say, I admire you for even taking the 30 seconds it took to respond to "dave." The "camel" quip he makes puts him right down there with the bags of dreck that most Americans leave on their curbs every Tuesday night.

Such mindless, ugly comments as the paving/camel business above are a huge reason why we are so universally loathed. Read Robert Fisk and take a look in the mirror: http://news.independent.co.uk/world/fisk/article2323413.ece

Dave, I'm not sure this is a solution...but, i'll try to explain why i feel the way i do to you. none of the religious factions in the world like each other! none of the political factions care much for each other either. in the mid east this is doubly true. in america we have laws governing equality, civil rights, freedom of religion. if we (america) continue to support people who trample these rights the natural reaction for the oppressed is to seek leadership who will listen to their needs! the reaction of the leaders we support is to keep the money flowing keeping their jobs as it were. so, they kick ass! the oppression, now, is greater and the opposition to the leadership we (america) support is greater and so on until it reaches a point where the oppressed go after who they perceive is the root of their problems! then it's easy for any idiot with a soap box and money to get the crowd on there feet and swaying to the music! hopefully, Dave, not in your back yard! Dave, i had to say this because i've been pissed off since reading your post.
your boy "scooter" was convicted today (a fall guy, maybe). also, through dialogue the threat from N. Korea doesn't seem so great...
more importantly i'm pissed because I had to use the dictionary because i suck at spelling and hiding my feelings and not using the word FUCK was even harder.....

Looks like BIG MATTRESS is just a mouthpiece for "MOVE ON"

Is there really one single solution, I think not. The current administration has made things dramatically worse be confirming the worst fears of these paranoid fanatics. The most amazing part of this is that after all these years of "civilzation" humanity is still trying to kill itself over religion!
Most religions (in their purest forms) preach the highest standards and talk about getting along. The so-called "true-believers" (Christian, Jewish, Buddish, Islam or whatever) have a nasty habit of bastardizing the message into something twisted and making certain that only the members of their "club" matter.
A possible start on the road to solutions is to stop trying to impose our will on the planet. Have people learn what our people are really about and do so through positive actions. Educate rather than eradicate. will that solve the problem? No, but it has to be better then where we are to day.
Two positive steps would be getting rid of the "crusaders" in Washington and may be listing to John Lennon, "Imagine no religion..."
