The Spammers are getting better

• Updates-8
I just got this email. We are all used to spam and junk crap, but take a look at the format of this one. If you have a PayPal account, this will make you do a double-take.

If you are a PayPal member, keep this email address in your address book. It is a quick and easy way to debunk the fraudulent spams, like this one.
By the way, here's a free update of your Adobe Reader you may not know about or have:

the first link above is of filetype ".webarchive". FILExt says that this is a Safari web browser archive. we PC folks can't open that. Charles, can you relink, but to a PDF file that all of us can read? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I got a similar one a couple of weeks ago, and I *almost* clicked on the link.

For those of you who can't view the email, it purports to be from PayPal confirming a purchase (which of course Charles didn't make) with a big "Cancel Transaction" link in it. The link takes you off into cyberspace somewhere, where I'm sure they have a site that looks pretty much like an official PayPal site. They 'll ask you for all sorts of information like "what's your social security number, what's your bank account number, what's your mother's maiden name" (just to confirm your account, of course).

I for one am extremely impressed with the cleverness of the Phishers. Now if only they could put their talents towards doing useful things, like stopping the violins or whirred peas, or getting Charles back on the radio in Boston. ;-)

Here's a clip from the email:

Thank you for using PayPal!

The PayPal Team

If you have a pay pal account, #1-pay pal NEVER starts with Dear Customer--they refer to you by name.

I got that about 4 months ago - I knew it was phoney - since I would NEVER buy a Dell. So, I pretty much ignored the whole email.
