Paul Sferruzza, an old friend of mine and sports enthusiast once told me that "soccer will never be accepted as a major commercial spectator sport in America."
I believe that smoking cigarettes will be unheard of in fifty years, except on the black market and in severely underdeveloped areas of the world.
I also strongly believe that (even though I still eat meat and fish occasionally), within fifty years there will be virtually no flesh-eating in most American homes and restaurants.
Which is most likely to happen? Please vote below- (one comment and one reply to another comment per person please).
In fifty years:
a) Soccer will be a major commercial spectator sport in the U.S.
b) Cigarette smoking will be non-existent in most developed countries.
c) The killing of living animals on American soil for any purpose except self-defense will be a criminal act.
d) None of the above will occur within fifty years.

I don't think that societal acceptance of soccer is a burning issue.Smoking will disappear even more quickly than that, but those far eastern cultures will probably start eating each other as their population dance exponentially. The real question is , can Tank still fit in a phone booth. (like I'm pppperfect)

in fifty years I'll be 99 so I won't be able to eat meat, smoke or kick balls other than my own- and as for killing animals, I would hope that we stop killing each other first...

Oh no... it'll be Soccer for sure. A couple of revealing things.
1) Soccer is already accepted as a sport in most grade schools... it's not too far before it grows up even more.
2) You can find old soccer re-runs on many sports satellite systems. hey, Classic sports is Classic sports... and if they don't have new stuff....
3) Anyone see Bend it Like Beckham?

My concern is when will animals stop killing each other?

I am an ardent supporter of PETA,(People Eating Tasty Animals)that is and smoking will always be cool with young people because no one dies of lung cancer at 21. So I vote for soccer.

Soccer already is the #1 spectator sport in the world.
People will always smoke.
People will be killing anything that moves as long as there's something left to kill
What are you smoking?

Soccer will do well in the long run. It is the most popular sport in High School at the moment. I had the pleasure of watching the finals of the US Cup in Foxboro two years ago along with a sold out crowd.
Smoking IS fast disappearing in Western Societies but I doubt it will ever be eradicated. It will retreat to "speakeasies" like boose during the prohibition and then make a come back.
That's my story and I'm Shticking to it.
