Doctors grow new jaw in man's back

Click to read this report of a whole bone being engineered and incubated inside a patient's body and transplanted, using stem cell research technology

Four weeks after the operation, the man ate a German sausage sandwich, his first real meal in nine years. He eats steak now, but complains to his doctor that because he has no teeth he has to cut it into such small pieces that by the time he gets to the end of the steak, it's cold.

"See? Who could ever like cold steak? More proof that the whole stem cell thing is bad.. It's wrong- Just wrong!"

Yeah! Call this Evolution? Or Nope. Way too quick for Mother Nature to take notice. Ahhh then.- Call this just another distracting social adoration.?

Welcome to the future, if you have the time. Grow your own organs, using your own stem cells from your bone marrow. No GVH complications.(Graft versus host)- a common problem in allogeneic transplantation, in which the host receives another's marrow and then must take drugs forever to ward off the marrow rejecting the host body or kidney transplants which require much the same care so that the person's own lymphocytes don't attack the new organ etc...
Using your own stem cells, not taken from embryos, growing your own organ, transplanting it... Well, are the religious conservatives going to balk at that one? Probably, they'll stamp their feet at everything that is not their business. Thing is, do you want a kidney growning out of the side of your ribs? Finding a way to do this type of replenishing, I'm sure, is going on in cytogenetics labs all over the world, even as we speak.. using animals, using "petri dishes".

Stem cell research is happening because it appears to be a valid new
approach to medicine. Developing new drugs (or finding new uses for old
drugs) is another approach. Developing mechanical devices to take over
failed body parts is a third. (Faith healing -- don't laugh -- is a fourth,
proving, to my mind, the power of positive placebos).

Back to stem cells. Here too there are multiple approaches. Using embryos is
one way -- an extremely promising way, from all I hear. If some people are
queasy about the idea of creating incipient babies for the purpose of
cannibalizing their genetic material and then discarding them, that's
understandable. However even if research in the US is limited or constrained
because government funding can only be used on stem cell research on a few
existing cell lines, that won't stop the process. European and Far Eastern
countries are moving very quickly and strongly in this area. The effect
might be a brain drain -- US scientists moving to other countries.

Re the ability to use one's own stem cells to grow new organs -- sorry,
everyone. I think the jaw bone story is a fake. Remember the bible story
about the jawbone of an ass? I suspect this is a take-off on that story. Not
that I don't think such a self-cloning could be done -- but not yet. Not at
this stage of our understanding of the process and the development of a
knowledge base and tools to make it happen.

Thing is, do you want a kidney growning out of the side of your ribs?

Yes H! I do, if I think I can save someone close.

According to this article, Lady Artist, that person you are saving that is close to you is really, really close to you.

In fact, it IS you.

Yes, Then I am definitely in !

Maternity Wear will take on a whole new meaning.

Like those tops that say "BABY" with the arrow pointing down...now it will be "LIVER", "JAWBONE"...

Instead of "New Generation" it can say "Regeneration".

...and just wait until Charles grows another Charles on his back...What will that one say?
