Dear Mr. Laquidara:

I could not let your comments regarding Hilary Clinton pass without a
rebuttal.

You, especially, should be aware of how personalities, especially
politicians, put on their best face when speaking to the media. This was
apparently the case when Hilary graced you with an interview. Granted, the
Franciscan Children's project is well worth receiving the publicity and funds,
but your gushing about Hilary being a regular person, yadda yadda, shows how
you too have been hood-winked into licking the plate that her and her husband
want us to eat from.

How can the President of the United States continue to deny he perjured
himself under the guise of sexual relations = intercourse and only
intercourse? When I sample Italian cuisine, does it mean that I only ate
lasagna?  While doing the interview was fine, and it will help the cause of
the Franciscans (sic), please spare us the idolatry.

Regards,

A classic rock lover.

Dear classic rock lover:
Unfortunately people who think like you have taken all of the magic from what Classic-Rock once stood for. When I started doing this kind of radio, it was called "underground" because we really didn't buy the bullshit of the right-wing Nixonian forces out there who were sending our kids off to die in Nam, and who were trying to lay their own personal self-righteous morality on the American people.

None of us "Classic-Rockers" bought into it back then. Eventually the music became exploited by corporate America, and a lot of us (I suppose me included) have changed for the worst -- a lot of the people our music was written by and for, became jaded, cynical, profit-motivated and overly moralistic. I won't respond to the particulars in your letter, because obviously no one is going to change anyone's mind here, but let me say that even if I personally DID NOT get a consensual blowjob from an intern -- if a government "special prosecutor" asked me under oath whether I got a blowjob or not -- I would lie and say I DID. You know why, Mr."classic rock lover"? Because it is none of his business, that's why -- it's between me and my wife -- me and my family. I, and the majority of American people out there, don't give two shits if Bill Clinton gets a consensual blowjob from anyone: that's between him, and that someone... and his wife. I want a president who can run my country, keep the peace if possible, and hold the economy steady -- if I wanted a spiritually pure person, I'd vote for the Pope.

So the next time I want the government to legislate my morality, I'll give you a shout, and you can place the collect call for me. Okay?

Yours truly,

Charles

P.S. The "sic" you use in your letter to me should go next to your spelling of "Hillary", not next to the word "Franciscan". Even if I disagreed with her, I at least knew how to spell Nancy (sic) Reagan's first name correctly.

Yes, the president's affairs are separate from his serious duties.
The affairs are foibles. I guess we'll hear a lot about this distinction from
the senate judiciary room in the next couple of days.
Even Eisenhower had his babe in England. All presidents tell lies. To real
grown ups, what matters is that they get their damn job done. They can go
to Hell later.

What was weird and fun in your response was dragging out the Nixon
whipping corpse and "Nam" to distract and befuddle your critic. The heat
of your indignation is a joy for a cold Christmas season. Keep those
windmills burning, you nut case.

ME get a life?? I fucking voted for the guy. (and last I heard, he won.) Get off your ivory schooner Pedro, and find out what's going down with the Constitution.

As much as I disliked their policies, I wouldn't even have let them throw out Reagan or Bush for that trivial shit. When I was in college, I was taught that impeachment is a last resort for serious criminal acts -- like High Crimes against the People and Treason -- not getting a blowjob, and lying to Big Brother about it.

I'll remind you that you said this someday in the future, when the next president YOU vote for is taken down against the will of the American people.

Charles,

Your getting off track. Prior to his lying to the American public I didn't give a damn what he did or who he lied to. Your right - it was SILLY. But it is his own damn fault for allowing it to go this far. He lied to a grand jury - that is against the law and his own Sec of Ag went to jail for it. Is he excused just because he is Pres. Watergate was just College pranks but like a fool Nixon allowed it to go too far.

Peter,
If my letter is "getting off track", then we're not even in the same train station.
Just save these letters, and we'll have a drink some night in the future: I'll let you cry in your beer when the new congress of Democrats takes your guy down because he lied to a "grand jury" about whether he masturbated in the oval office or not.
c.

PS: I believe that "sec of agr" was found innocent and completely exonerated of all charges, by the same judicial system you espouse. Am I wrong, or did you conveniently forget that?

High treason my ass...

Watch how the mean-spiritedness and 19th century mindset of those temporarily in power takes down what was once our great country. This is just the beginning.

Okay, so we agree Clinton's got a big ego...so what chapter is it in your Cape Cod History books that says big egos are grounds for impeachment?
That he lied to a politically-appointed government investigator about a matter that was none of anyone's business except he, the consenting adult, (and probably his family): Is that grounds for impeachment, you "Mr. Keep-the-government-out-of-our-lives" Republican hypocrite?
You should be drinking blood.

Like I said earlier, this is just the beginning.

Charles,

I totally agree with you.  Only conservatives and the IDIOT Republican party cares.  I think this country is doing better than it ever has.  I believe the reason the Republicans are trying to disgrace Bill Clinton is because he should go down in history as one of the greatest presidents of all time.  We can't judge the man on his personal life but what he has done for the country.  I do not agree with what he has done in his personal life but, as stated it is his personal life.  It also shows you that the media hasn't had an original thought in decades and that republican is made up of royal assholes.  That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.  Bye the way I am an independent.

Charles;

You are absolutely on the nose about Clinton and the majority of the population. People that moralize on the thing act as if they've never lied in their lives, and under oath or not, a lie is a lie. Now, since I've lied many times in my life, as have we all at one time or another, I'm not about to criticize the President for doing what I've done, especially when it concerns his private life. When it comes to  matter that is so personally damaging to the family, it would be a natural lie to tell. Of course I'd want to protect my wife and daughter from that kind of shame and betrayal. Of course I'd lie at first, until some pitbull waved a dirty dress in my face.

Again, you hit it dead on with the radio talk show circuit. They should be representing the public view, instead of their owners. This is the same situation with the Herald, which has been a wanna-be republican paper since forever. The Herald, in the scope of newspapers, is only a step up from the National Enquirer (that might be giving the Herald too much credit), or one of those old Hollywood tattler rags from the Fifties. At any rate, rich people who own facets of the media feel this need to shape the morals of the public, and believe they are influencing what happens in Washington this way as well. Not to mention that they're probably all Republicans anyway.

I think one of the heroes of this whole mess is Larry Flynt! Good or him for exposing the hypocrisy!

Anyway, I've rambled on enough- I jut wanted to tell you I agree what everything you said- Hey could you play some ELP? Anything that's not usually played would be great! Maybe "Bitches Crystal" from Tarkus?

Thanks again-

Charles,

I listen to your show every day.  It's very entertaining and you got a great crew.  I loved what you did to that abused guy the other day.  I don't suppose he'll be calling back.

I totally agree with you about this Clinton thing.  They've beat this to the point of nausea.  I didn't vote for Clinton and I feel that economic trends are mostly cyclic but I don't think that he's done a bad job and the country is in pretty good shape.  Bill has a problem like alot of males - he just couldn't keep it in his pants!  We're not talking national security here just a little indiscretion and you're absolutely right, who is going to admit or talk about something like that.  Anyone who thinks that every other politician doesn't lie or have dirty laundry is pretty naive.  He's been dragged through the mud long enough.  The punishment has already by far fit the crime.  Lets get on to more important issues!

I commute every morning from 6:30 to 7:30.  If you get a chance, can you play something by Uriah Heep (maybe something other that Easy Livin).

Thanks

charles, irregardless of the affair clinton had with monica the bottom line is that he lied under oath. if he came clean at the beginning and admitted his fault he would never be in this position. yes he is doing a fantatstic job and the only way he will not be impeached is al gore. the thought of him being president is like a bad dream that you never wake up from. if it was you or i or any other average joe that lied under oath we would be at charles st. also how do you explain to your son or daughter that the president of the united states lied to his family, his friends, and the american people and it was acceptable? take care paesan.

To: james ciampa
From: charles@wzlx.com

Dear James:

It's probably wrong to lie under oath in any circumstances, but where do we draw the line here? At what point do we say, "Enough! Enough!"

This all started with a private civil suit, that should never have gotten to the point it did. It was allowed to proceed because of  the decision of a right-wing Supreme Court. What does any American do when the "oath-givers" are not acting in the best interests of the country; when they are asking questions that are personal, private and no one else's business?

Under oath, can you honestly say that you wouldn't stretch the truth, or do just about anything to avoid giving information that would destroy the people you were privately involved with, or the wife or daughter you loved? It goes without saying that Clinton's affairs were foolish and reckless. But so were many other Presidents in past history, from Thomas Jefferson to Franklin Roosevelt to JFK to allegedly even George Bush. Clinton was deposed by a prosecutor, who was appointed by an opposing Party which had one objective: to "get Clinton."

We're not talking about a capital crime here. He may or may not have harassed a woman ten years ago, but this country should never have been put in a position where that civil action that may have occurred years ago is the basis of a full-scale investigation with a  politically appointed Special Prosecutor. Where was that Special Prosecutor when President Reagan was committing the much more serious crime of Contragate? Where was the Special Prosecutor when Henry Kissenger and Richard Nixon were accused by some news sources of illegally ordering the C.I.A. to support the assassination and overthrow of Salvadore Allende, the democratically elected president of Chile?

Although many principled Americans might have chosen to do the same thing in order to protect the innocent, the fact that President Clinton lied is arguably inexcusable. But the fact that he was even PUT in that position by the Republican Right is totally reprehensible.

Are the trial managers desperate or what? Trent Lott is going to propose a resolution in the trial to convict.....but not remove. A feeble attempt to save face. What idiots! That'll never fly. The Dems and moderate Repubs can smell their blood in the water now. It's over. Monica must have held firm Sunday that no one asked her to lie, leaving them with nothing. Henry Hyde & CO's squirming and agony are delicious! I hope they've learned a lesson in all this... Let history tell the story that the Repubs were so desperate to undo a successful, popular Dem that they tried to lower the bar of impeachment to the level of the trivial. And let the story conclude that WE would not let them...

Your show this morning was terrible and is getting very old. Anyone who takes the position of defending this President of taking advantage of a far younger women or lying is going to look like a fool even to those who politically support him. So he's still our President, it doesn't clear him of not being a decent human.

Time to get off the Clinton Band Wagon buddy there are far more important issues that could use your attention as a public figure.

To: Peter K
From: Charles

Peter:

Let me quote your very words from several months ago, when it looked like your right-wing, fascist colleagues were going to try to undo the election of 1996, and the will of a huge and overwhelming number of the American people: "get a life," and -- while you're at it -- get a clue. You lost, and you lost big. Everything I had said back then has come true, and I stand by this morning's statement.

You, Peter, are a hypocrite. This "taking advantage of a far younger woman" statement is so out of touch that it would  be hilarious, if it weren't so frightening to see a supposedly intelligent businessman writing it. You sound like Dapper O'Neil.

I would hope that you would also be principled enough to lie (about a consenting sexual relationship that is no one else's business) in order to protect the other person, and your family. And if you wouldn't, Peter -- then it is you who is the indecent human -- a coward, a man who can not be trusted to keep a confidence, and a douche bag.

But it really doesn't matter, because who is and who is not what you call a "decent human" is no longer being decided by you and your sanctimonious friends. It is being  decided by  the majority of Americans out there.

And it's not over yet. As I said to you in an earlier response -- wait until the elections of 2000.

Hi Charles,

I just finished reading some of the emails that you've received concerning the impeachment and the various opinions that went with it. I voted for Clinton the first time because I admired his survival instinct. I did not vote for him the second time. Since this all broke I have been of the opinion that he should be convicted and removed for perjury and obstruction of justice. I am registered as "unenrolled". I like neither  the Republicans nor the Democrats. They are all the same to me....crooked politicians. I believe that if a Republican President did what Clinton did, the Democrats would be leading the charge for impeachment.

After reading your opinion, I can now see for the first time the other side's opinion and I understand it better. But I still cannot get over the fact of what Clinton actually did, as our President, in the Oval Office. Even while a Special Prosecuter was appointed and investigating almost every facet of his life, he STILL couldn't keep it in his pants. What the hell did he expect would happen if he got caught!!!??? And why the hell didn't he just settle the Paula Jones case to begin with and avoid all this??? I agree, it's natural to lie to try to cover up shameful behavior. I've done it myself and I also got caught. But I paid the price for my actions, and I can't help but think that Clinton is just laughing all the way to the Oval Office. People say that just the fact that he will go down in history as only the second President to be impeached is punishment enough. I think he should have been punished more by being removed. I don't expect that my email will change your mind, nor will you change mine....but for the first time, thanks to you, I do understand the anti impeachment side. I believe that as long as we can respect each others opinion, then this country should land on it's feet.

Respectfully,
Bernie

P.S.
I'm a long time fan of yours. We actually met once. You invited my brother Rich into the studio to watch the show and I tagged along. It was a great experience and we had a great time.
